This past weekend my great friend @aliciarosemedia asked us to take photos with an Urban theme and we jumped right on board! It had been a while since we’ve done professional pictures so we thought it would be fun to update our picture frames at home and maybe use one for a Christmas card! We had such a fun time doing the shoot. Alicia is so efficient and knows exactly how to work with kids. We probably finished the shoot in a little over an hour and we completely lucked out with the weather- 60 degrees! This November weather has been amazing- 60s and 70s some days, I’ll take it. I absolutely love the photos she captured of our family, and I’ve already printed a number of them to fill those frames around the house!
I really enjoyed picking our outfits out for this shoot. For Ella Rose and Owen, they both wore clothes from Janie and Jack. My secret to shopping there…only buy things on sale! It is such a classic look for children, and I always am drawn to their adorable fashion. I highly recommend checking out their sales right here. For Ella Rose, she wore a beautiful faux collar camel sweater dress and a pair of faux fur brown boots. Both of these pieces were from last season, and still fit. Another shopping secret, I always buy the next size for my children even if it is a little long or big, and I just roll the sleeves or pants so that we can get longer uses out of the clothing. Next, Owen wore a jean collared button up with a horse cardigan also from Janie and Jack along with those handsome, brown suede shoes that I’m crazy about (you’ll understand if you read my last blog post). His pants are from H&M and are a steal. As I’ve mentioned before, H&M is my go to for every day children’s clothes. I love their casual, yet, trendy style and their clothes are so affordable!
For the photos, Alicia really captured the kids’ personalities. Ella Rose had TOO much fun posing for the camera and was eating up every moment, showing off her sweet and sassy side. Owen was of course busy cracking jokes and running down the alleys (per usual). I was surprised I only had to bribe with a couple tiny pieces of candy. Another little secret to share, I waited all day to give them any sort of sugar/treats, so that when I really needed the amo, I was ready ;-). Thanks to my friend, Niki, for that advice!
For my outfit, I wore this fur vest that I am crazy about. I have had it for years and have worn it every fall! It is one of my favorite pieces from my wardrobe and is so versatile. I also wore this cozy cream turtle neck with my leather pants that I LOVE. I usually save these pants for fun, special occasions like this or date night when it’s fun to dress up and be a little saucy ;-). For Brendan’s outfit, we have had the best luck at Nordstrom Rack for his casual collared shirts. He also wore his Sperry Boat shoes which also are a great piece to any man’s wardrobe.
This picture below is probably my favorite, most meaningful photo. It brings back so many memories for when we moved here. As I mentioned in my Instagram caption, I love this pic because it captures our life in Denver perfectly. We love raising our family here and love how it has become our home. When we moved here with a newborn, after two surgeries, for a new career (talk about some of the biggest life stressors😣)…with no family or friends, we didn’t know what this place had in store for us. But we welcomed it with open arms and are happy to call it home. This is the Oxford Hotel where Brendan lived for his first month of commuting while I was back at home in STL with our first newborn baby girl waiting to join him. I’ll never forget those crazy times but I’m grateful for how they’ve shaped our family.
I love that we each have moments pictured with our sweet kiddos. Alicia really has a talent with photography and I’m so lucky to have her as a friend. Be sure to check out her work and blog @aliciarosemedia and @thewanderlustlife_ for Colorado adventures!
Hope you loved these photos as much as I do!
