What to Wear on Thanksgiving

Wow, I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving already! For me, Thanksgiving is the first holiday where the warm cozy, holiday feelings begin, and I am absolutely counting down the days until Christmas. With all of the craziness going on in the news and media, I wanted to lighten the mood and share some fun ideas about what to wear for Thanksgiving instead ;-).  I’ve found Thanksgiving to be a little more difficult to plan (outfit wise) and I know I’m not the only one who believes so. Therefore, I wanted to share some ideas with you on what I’ve recently chosen for our first winter holiday outfits. These outfits are comfortable, can be unbuttoned (after a full belly of turkey), and are kid friendly, and possibly stain free from kids…just kidding…I wish. I also wanted to share my decor ideas with you all as well, because I think a well-thought out table setting, where you can actually put the China to use, is always fun too! 😉

The first set of outfits is the Smocked look for the kids and a simple jean dress for me. I’ve always loved the Smocked look for children and think it is such a classic look especially for holidays and special occasions.

It can be a little easier to find girl Smocked looks than it can be to find boy’s; however, I loved this look I found for Owen with the football overalls and the suede dress shoes. He even loved this look and was popping his collar at one point running through the alley, he looked so proud ;-). It was pretty funny.

For girls, there are several cute Smocked dresses.  I tend to go for the classic Bishop Smocked dress, but this year, I opted for a more simple look to pair well with Owen’s outfit so it wouldn’t be too busy or too much. We also absolutely love these “cat” shoes from Gap and have gotten so much use out of them! I love that they’ve kept this look around for over a year now as well.

For my first outfit for Thanksgiving, I love wearing a simple jean dress with some beige wedge booties. I wear these booties everywhere- date nights, church, events with the kids- they’re so comfy and I don’t feel like I am going to fall over chasing the kids around. I highly recommend them. If it is a chillier day you could always wear tights or leggings with the jean dress as well. With these two looks for myself and the children, I was going for a more dressier Fall look for the Thanksgiving feast.

On the other hand, I love this second set we matched up for Thanksgiving. I’d say it is a little more casual, but still dressy enough. For Owen, I found this adorable puppy dog button up from Janie and Jack and paired it with these adorable, oh so comfy, courdoroy pants from H&M (my go to store for everyday children’s clothes FYI). I also got so excited when I found these amazing suede dress shoes for him- they looked like something Brendan would wear to work, but were for little tots, and I have to say…I’m obsessed (see above pic as well). They’re perfect for the holidays, photo shoots, and church! I know we will get tons of use out of them. For Ella Rose, I found this simple, cute plaid skirt with gold buttons up the front from Janie and Jack. It is darling. For her shoes, we love these booties we got from Janie and Jack last year and they are perfect for the fall and winter!

Lastly, for my outfit. I have had these pants from 7 for all mankind for ages! They are so comfy and go with everything. I wear them on an every day basis, out to dinner for drinks, etc. They really are so versatile. I love this top with the bellowing sleeves as well. And finally, my shoes, are from Target along with so many of my shoes! These booties are great for any Sunday best or a night out. They aren’t too high up, but can easily dress up any outfit.

And finally, I love decorating and hosting so when a friend asked to photograph my “Thanksgiving look” I was all about it! I had so much fun with this. For our China we have the everlasting Kate Spade/Lennox Belle Boulevard collection. This collection was the first one I saw, and I was completely sold. It is a timeless collection. For the Charger plates, I use these and have found them to really dress up the entire look of the table. One of my favorite dining room table pieces I use year round are these gorgeous big candle holders and candles from Pottery Barn. In addition, my table runner is from Pottery barn as well. Lastly, I found napkin rings on sale for $5 at pier one imports as well as some festive napkins (see image below to purchase). They have great dining decor and wonderful sales to check out. With some yummy pie, fresh flowers, a Thanksgiving feast, and some fun outfits, your Thanksgiving can be a memorable one to say the least.
