To share a room or not share a room… That is the question for any growing families out there. I have a number of friends getting to the point where their kids might have to share a room and many wonder how it will go. We wondered the same thing, given the set up of our home. We eventually decided we would try to push off the shared bedroom until the kids were a bit older but in order to do so we had to get a bit creative…We already had a “princess” type bedroom for our sweet little Ella Rose when we found out we were expecting the arrival of a little boy. So, we decided to create a “Jack and Jill” room for them. This was one of the BEST decisions we have ever made regarding our two kiddos. First of all, knowing how our oldest is, we knew we had to separate them when it came time for bed. They are both very good sleepers (definitely took some sleep training), but we knew they needed to be separated when it came to sleeping arrangements in order for each of them to have good nights of sleep. Ella Rose’s original room was relatively large for just one child so after doing some research we thought why not split it into two rooms? We consulted our realtor and a home appraiser to make sure it would add value to our house and see what was required to count it as another bedroom. Because there was already an entrance on each side of the room all we had to do was build a wall with some sliding pocket doors and add a closet (there was already a window on each side of the wall & in Colorado in order to count a room as a bedroom you need a window and a closet). We really wanted to do this so that we could open the doors during the day for the kids to play, but close the doors at night in order to sleep more soundly. After getting a few different quotes, we hired a contractor who was able to get the job done in a little over a week! He did such an amazing job and we are so happy with the result. It has now been 8 months of them sharing this “Jack and Jill” room and we are so pleased.
